St. Margaret's at Cliffe

Last Saturday Annuska, Da, Adam and me made a road trip to Dover (or close to Dover). We had a mission, one mission only: to take pictures of my Darlings bench and Kanava candleholders. Hopefully the pictures will be published soonish, meaning later this autumn. We had quite ruff morning... Da, our super model, had superhangover but he did very well in the end. Then we had some problems fitting into Adam's tiny car. I didn't really consider the transportation when i designed Darlings.

Well here are some pictures of our fun day and a video clip about a great danger we faced..

Enjoy!

The final pictures you will see as soon as Mrs Dal Maso developes them!

What have I been doing for the past three weeks? Well, I’ve been spending my time mostly in Hackney and in Notting Hill. After Yannou was here in the end of last month (more or less) I haven’t done much else than worked, days and nights… Sometimes I feel so exhausted that I just want to sink in to my bed.

Let me tell you a little bit more: When I moved to London I knew from the beginning that I need to get another job on top of my internship at Martino’s because that doesn’t pay. After few days of searching I got a job from a Mexican restaurant called Mexicali. The place was just about to open, perfect timing for me!! So I’ve been the blond Mexican waitress/bartender there for three weeks now.

In the beginning my hours were mental. I worked five nights a week plus all weekdays at Martino’s studio. Most of the days I woke up, worked around seven/eight hours with Martino, took underground to Mexicali, stayed there until the restaurant closed, went home to sleep and the same things all over again the following day. I haven’t had a day of since I started working. Pffff, but even though it might sound I’m complaining I’m not! I have had amazing summer. I have learnt more at Martino’s than in two years at UCCA (I’ll show our technicians some crazy tricks with table saw when I get back to uni!!).
Working at Mexicali has been really hectic and the nights are mostly really busy but the people I work with are great. Michael, the owner of Mexicali chain, is the best boss I have ever had in my life.
And when I have lot of things to do the time goes faster. I cant wait it t be the end of this month. I’m going to Paris again for two looong weeks! To be honest I cant wait to get back to uni either. I have so much ideas in my head that my brain will explode soon if I cant get them out.

We’ve been working on many projects with Mr. Gamper and Da. Mosty I’ve been helping him with the 100 chairs in 100 days (for me it is more like 1 chair in 2 days though…). We made a bench for a bar in Paris (I’ll post pictures as soon as I get some) and few other smaller design projects that will be exhibited later this year. Very nice projects in the end!

So nothing that interesting has happened in my life during the past weeks.

Yann was in London for a long weekend. He took the train from Paris and took his first time in Waterloo station very well. We spent very relaxing weekend sightseeing and napping. I had a great time… I cant wait to get back to my French frie.

Holland Park is absolutely fabulous. I adore this area of London. I love the fact that the streets are never so busy that you would have to look where you are walking without pumping in to somebody. But still Notting Hill is just next to it, if you need some action.
AND (!!) few weeks ago I found two Arne Jacobsen’s chairs from the street. Maybe it’s not so big of a deal to you but for me it felt like Christmas.
I have always been jealous to people that tells stories about abandoned design furniture they found from the weirdest places. Well now I can believe those stories. My new babies are black and in a very good condition. The just need a bit sanding and new paint and voila, as good as new!!

I’ll be back in Rochester around 12th of September.
And my next time in Helsinki will be in the middle of October.

Sziastok!

Ps. I still miss Budapest like hell.
Pps. Check this out... you can see where I spend most of my days in London:
